Volunteering is a wonderful way to build your skills, increase confidence and make important connections with potential employers. All great things to put on your resume and improve your chances of gaining employment. You can also meet new people and have fun while volunteering.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer. There are a wide range of roles to suit your skills and interests and there are also both short and long term opportunities.

Where can I volunteer?

Emergency Volunteering

Emergency Volunteering is an example of a short term opportunity. You can register your interest in assisting in an emergency such as flood or fire.As a VICSES volunteer, you can make a difference, develop new skills, form new friendships and enjoy the team spirit of a tightly knit unit. These are some of the benefits of being a VICSES volunteer.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels are also delivered by volunteers to clients in Swan Hill, Robinvale, Manangatang, Lake Boga and Nyah/Nyah West townships.

Pioneer Settlement

There are many varied and interesting ways you can volunteer at the Pioneer Settlement including gardening, working in one of the many shops, machinery restoration and catering.

Swan Hill Regional Library

Volunteers at the Swan Hill Regional Library help in a range of ways including re-shelving books, covering new books, running Saturday morning storytimes, running one-on-one basic computer lessons for seniors and delivering books to house-bound people and nursing homes on a monthly basis (within Swan Hill only). Some volunteer positions may require a certain level of physical fitness, Working with Children or Police Checks or your own transport.

Swan Hill Neighbourhood House

There are many other organisations that are always looking for volunteers. Swan Hill Neighbourhood House Inc has set up a register for those wanting to offer their services and for organisations looking for volunteers. Your skills can be matched to an organisation with similar requirements. If needed, police checks can be done through Neighbourhood House.

Swan Hill District Health

The volunteering program at Swan Hill District Health is based on meeting the organisations needs while also matching volunteer’s skills and interests, with available roles. As a large organisation they are able to offer opportunities and choice to their volunteers and are careful to recruit the right person to the right role to ensure that the experience is beneficial to all. All volunteers are given relevant orientation prior to commencement and will be provided with day to day supervision and support.
